Elements of Communication
The communication process involves the following key elements:
- Sender - the person initiating the communication
- Message - the information or content being communicated
- Encoding - converting the message into a format that can be transmitted
- Channels of Communication - the medium through which the message is transmitted
- Receiver - the intended recipient of the message
- Decoding - interpreting the received message
- Interpretation - understanding the meaning of the message
- Feedback - the response from the receiver to the sender
- Environment - the context and atmosphere in which communication occurs
Features of Communication
- Two way process - involves interaction between sender and receiver
- Information sharing and understanding - both parties share and comprehend information
- Circular flow - communication moves in a continuous cycle
- Verbal and non-verbal - includes spoken words and body language
- Goal oriented - communication has specific objectives
- Continuous process - an ongoing activity in organizations
- Pervasive - present in all aspects of business activities
